Civil engineering training comes to Copper Country
(2008-08-14)
(wnmu) - The Michigan Department of Transportation wants to get more school-age kids interested in engineering for the state. MDOT is offering a new program in the Western Upper Peninsula called Transportation and Civil Engineering--or TRAC. MDOT spokesman Bob Felt says the program will offer training to teachers of middle and high school students in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties.

Felt says TRAC is a way to ensure Michigan has enough engineers for the future, as there are indications there will be fewer math and science engineers in the state in the next ten years.

Felt says the program will offer education in such subjects as bridge-building, city planning, highway development and the environment, and highway safety.

TRAC takes place August 25th and 26th from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Copper Country Intermediate School District. For more information, call 786-1800.
