Marquette Commissioner reports on state roads
(2008-07-22)
(wnmu) - Marquette County Commissioner Bob Struck says the U.P. doesn't have sufficient funding to keep up its roads. He's a member of a citizens advisory committee formed by Governor Granholm to evaluate the state's highway funding issues and needs. Struck is chairman of the Highway Road and Bridge Subcommittee, and presented a report to the Michigan Transportation Task Force Monday in Traverse City.

Findings indicate some Upper Peninsula road commissions allocate more than 25 percent of their funding just to snow removal, which limits their ability to perform maintenance and make highway improvements. Struck says many necessary U.P. projects are threatened by a current lack of funds.

The Highway Road and Bridge Subcommittee will meet through October and present a comprehensive report to the legislature at that time.
