U.P.-wide 911 authority considered
(2008-07-08)
(wnmu) - The Marquette County Board of Commissioners has endorsed a plan to create a U.P.-wide 911 authority. County Administrator Steve Powers says the aim of the plan is to work with other local governments for public benefit. He says the move wouldn't physically consolidate 911 dispatch centers, but rather create a network of resources and cooperation.

There are currently seven county dispatch centers in the Upper Peninsula. Powers says U.P. county commissioners approved the proposal in May, and are working through the Urban Cooperation Law to set the plan in motion.
