Mangum Farm to reopen
(2008-05-22)
(wnmu) - Marquette County officials are moving ahead with plans to reopen the Mangum Prison Farm in Chocolay Twnship. Sheriff Mike Lovelace says the County Board has come up with a workable budget, which was perhaps the biggest roadblock to reopening the minimum-security unit. He says having the Mangum farm available for inmates will alleviate overcrowding at the Marquette County Jail, and bring bed space up to where it needs to be for the population.

Lovelace says funding for the farm was included in the County Board's strategic plan, so no tax increases will fund the project. He adds Mangum is only a temporary fix for overcrowding, and officials will eventually need a long-range plan.

Inmates at the mangum farm will be offered access to resume-building classes, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, anger management classes, and other educational programs.
