Program teaches kids healthy lifestyle
(2008-05-15)
(wnmu) - The Michigan State University Extension wants to show area groups how to teach kids to live healthy lives. The Jump Into Foods and Fitness program is aimed specifically at ages 8 to 11, but can be adapted to 5-year-olds to teens.

Linda Remsburg is a youth development associate with the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development, a partner in the training. She says while kids learn good eating and exercise habits now, the JIFF program will enable them to keep those healthy habits the rest of their lives. She says that will go a long way toward preventing weight-related diseases in the future.

Remsburg says JIFF is for non-formal community groups like 4-H, after-school programs, sports teams, and day camps.

The training takes place June 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Peter White Public Library in Marquette. For more information, call 228-8919.
