MARQUETTE, MI
(wnmu) -
Law enforcement officials are hoping Michigan's struggling economy won't affect a Corrections Academy held nearly every year in the U.P. Sergeant Brian Steede of the Marquette County Sheriff's Department is a coordinator and trainer at the academy, which is held at Northern Michigan University. Steede says the program offers 160 hours of training required by the state for corrections officials. He notes trainees appreciate not having to go downstate for classes, as it saves time and money to train locally.Seventeen officers from nine counties recently graduated from the Corrections Academy at NMU.
