MARQUETTE, MI
(wnmu) -
This week is Cover the Uninsured Week across the nation, and the Medical Care Access Coalition of Marquette County wants to bring awareness to the issue. MCAC Vice President Karlyn Rapport says about 47 million people in the U.S. don't have health insurance. That includes more than 26,000 adults and nearly 6,800 children in the U.P. Rapport says a lack of insurance can, in turn, affect residents' health, because they'll wait until a problem becomes urgent before they'll see a doctor. She says 18,000 people die each year in the U.S. because they're uninsured.MCAC is hosting an awareness walk Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m. at the Marquette Commons, followed by a health fair from 10 to noon.
