MARQUETTE, MI
(wnmu) -
An oil leak from a tug boat has been mostly cleaned up from Marquette's Lower Harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the leak around 9:30 Monday morning. Officials say the tug Dorothy Ann was leaving the Shiras Steam Plant when it struck an unidentified object, releasing 30 gallons of lube oil through a seal. Boom and absorbent material were deployed to contain the spill, much of which evaporated in the warm, sunny weather. The Coast Guard, Department of Environmental Quality, a spill response contractor, and representatives from the Interlake Steamship Company are conducting an investigation into the incident.
