MASTODON TOWNSHIP, MI
(wnmu) -
Two kayakers were rescued in Iron County over the weekend, after one suffered chest pain and the other broke her ankle. Troopers from the Iron River post responded Sunday to the Brule River in Mastodon Township, following a call to 911. The caller said Gary Neeley, 52, of Crystal Falls was kayaking with two others when his kayak overturned, injuring his leg and prompting chest pain. A member of his party, Laverne Martin of Alpha, walked a short way downriver to a home and placed the 911 call. She continued another half a mile, where she stepped in a hole and broke her ankle. Neeley was removed from the site by Iron County Search and Rescue, and was taken to Iron County Community Hospital for treatment. Martin was rescued by Florence County, Wisconsin search teams. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
