Officials with Upper Peninsula Power Company are denying allegations made in a federal lawsuit made by Naterra Land. The land development company says UPPCO committed breach of contract and fraud in a deal to purchase land around hydroelectric dams in three Upper Peninsula Counties. Naterra says it entered the $8.9 million agreement after UPPCO said it had no dam repairs planned, only to find out months later the power company wanted to install a fuse plug in the Bond Falls dam. Naterra also claims it cannot develop land on some of the waterfronts, since UPPCO drew down water levels in the AuTrain Basin.UPPCO Communications Director Janet Wolfe says no fraud was committed.
