Menominee County police warn of mail scam
(2008-03-11)
(wnmu) - State Police from the Stephenson post are warning Menominee County residents about a new scam. Officials say some residents have received a notification in the mail that they've won a large cash prize. To receive the prize, the victim is instructed to cash an enclosed check issued by Powerpoint, Inc., then wire
$3,000 of it to a third party for taxes or other expenses. Police say Powerpoint is a fictitious financial institution, and the checks are fake.

Officials are urging citizens to avoid becoming involved in the scam, which has defrauded numerous Menominee and Marinette County residents in recent months. Anyone who has been affected by the scam is asked to call the Stephenson post at 753-2276.
