Tribe asks for cooperation from legislature
(2008-02-28)
(wnmu) - More cooperation between tribal and state government leaders could help address health care concerns and improve economic development. That's the message delivered Tuesday to the legislature by the president of the Stockbridge-Munsee band of Mohican indians, Robert Chicks. Chicks gave the fourth annual state of the tribes speech before a joint meeting of the state senate and assembly and representatives of the state's 11-American Indian tribes. Chicks has asked the legislature to pass a joint resolution recognizing tribal governments. He says that would help foster more cooperation.
