Two Michigan Technological University students escaped serious injury when their off-campus rental house was destroyed by an explosion and fire. Chad Loritz, 24, and Adam Salmon, 23, were asleep in their upstairs bedroom Monday around 1:00 a.m. when an explosion blew out the south wall of their house in Hancock. Authorities say the explosion ignited a fire so intense it melted the siding on neighboring homes.Hancock Police Chief and Fire Marshal, Michael Beaudoin, says the house is a total loss and the cause of the explosion is under investigation. He says Salmon stepped on broken glass, but otherwise the students were unharmed.
