The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing $42 million in the Upper Peninsula this year. MDOT recently approved a five-year transportation program through 2012. It calls for $153 million in road and bridge improvements and preservation in its Superior Region. Projects are slated for 164 miles of road and 11 bridges in the next five years in the U.P. They include resurfacing 6.8 miles of M-28 in Luce County, deck replacement of the Cut River Bridge in Mackinac County, resurfacing a portion of M-64 in Gogebic County, and the extension of passing lanes on US-41 in Marquette County.
