Michigan primary turnout high
(2008-01-21)
(wnmu) - Last week's primary produced the third-highest turnout in Michigan's history. That's according to the Michigan Secretary of State's office. Spokeswoman Kelly Chesney says 1.48 million voters participated in the primary--or 20.7 percent of eligible voters. Chesney says the number will very likely rise in the upcoming presidential election.

Michigan has more than seven million registered voters. The record primary turnout was in 1972, with more than 1.9 million residents going to the polls.
