DNR delays sulfide mine decision
Kennecott wants to build the mine on the Yellow Dog Plains. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has already issued permits for the project. But the company also needs approval from the DNR because it wants to lease state land for its surface operations. Kennecott is also awaiting a permit from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Opponents are challenging the DEQ's permit approval in court.
