Tech offers in-state tuition to students in military families
(2007-12-19)
(wnmu) - Michigan Technological University is making it easier for families of military personnel to get in-state tuition. Tech is now the only school in the country to offer the children and spouses of persons on full-time active military duty in-state tuition, no matter where they live. John Lehman is the Assistant Vice-President for Enrollment Services. He says military families typically move every three to four years, which often disqualifies their students for in-state tuition where they move. Lehman says Tech's program gets around that barrier, by offering in-state tuition to families of state residents who have been stationed elsewhere or to residents of other states temporarily stationed in Michigan.

To qualify, the student must be the son, daughter, or spouse of an active-duty uniformed officer in any branch of the military--including the Coast Guard. Lehman says the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition is more than $11,000 a year.
