One injured in Sands crash
(2007-11-29)
(wnmu) - A downstate man is hospitalized, following a traffic crash in Marquette County. The Sheriff's department says the accident occurred Wednesday around 9:55 p.m. on M-553, about one mile south of the Crossroads in Sands Township. Investigation reveals a southbound car driven by Albert Zertuche, 51, of Grand Rapids crossed the centerline and struck the end of a northbound semi tractor-trailer. Zertuche had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Marquette County Rescue Squad. He was taken to Marquette General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The Sheriff's Office is also investigating a hit-and-run crash--possibly involving Zertuche--that occurred shortly before the semi accident. It happened near M-553 and M-554 near Marquette Mountain. No one was injured, and alcohol involvement is unknown at this time.
