DMA can't fund ball drop
(2007-11-21)
(wnmu) - The Downtown Marquette Association will not be sponsoring the New Year's Eve ball drop this year. Promotions Director Anna Patrick says the city cut funding for the activity from the DMA's budget a couple of years ago, and the Association has picked up the tab ever since. Patrick says the DMA can longer afford to pay for the ball drop, especially when downtown businesses don't directly benefit, because they're closed at the time. Patrick says the DMA is hoping the community will form a committee to identify other funding sources.

About 3,000 people attended the ball drop last New Year's Eve in downtown Marquette.
