Ishpeming looking to improve downtown
(2007-10-26)
(wnmu) - Ishpeming city officials are looking at improving the city's residential and downtown areas. The city council discussed implementing a Residential Rental Inspection' ordinance. The law would require all rental properties to pass certain criteria every 3 years. Ishpeming city manager, Alan Bakalarski says the council would encourage landlords and property owners to make improvements based on the initiative. Bakalarski says that if the rental inspection ordinance was implemented, the city could apply for state rehabilitation grants to reward property owners who made improvements. He says the next stop in the process is to identify areas that the downtown development authority could aid in improving.
