SAULT STE. MARIE, MI
(wnmu) -
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians' police chief has been suspended, after he was arrested on an assault charge. A tribal woman claims Chief Fred Paquin followed her home after a softball game August 20th, then assaulted her near her home. She filed a complaint with State Police, who conducted an investigation and turned the information over to the Chippewa County Prosecutor, who in turn referred the matter to the Michigan Attorney General's Office. Paquin was subsequently suspended from his job as part of standard procedure. Tribe Chairman Aaron Payment says if Paquin is convicted of assault and battery he would bring disgrace to the tribe. Payment says if the allegation is true, he can't imagine a situation where Paquin would continue as Chief of Police. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
