Fake bills circulate in Marquette area
(2007-10-15)
(wnmu) - Marquette Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for fake $20 bills. Officials say several counterfeit bills have been passed at local businesses and recovered from local banks. They say the money lacks the security measures associated with real currency. They include the security thread, the water mark of Andrew Jackson's head, and the color-shifting ink that forms the number 20 at the lower-right-hand side of the bill. Police say the money also generally feels different to the touch.

For more information, go to the Secret Service website at www.secretservice.gov. Anyone suspecting they have a counterfeit bill should contact their local law enforcement agency.
