Hunter faces homicide charges
(2007-10-08)
(wnmu) - A Marquette judge failed to dismiss a homicide charge against James Nichols. The judge ruled that jurors could consider a second-degree murder conviction as an alternative to first-degree intentional homicide. Nichols was charged with homicide when he shot and killed hunter, Cha Vang, during a confrontation in the 'Peshtigo Wildlife' area last January. While Nichols stated that it was self-defense, prosecutors believe him to be prejudice to Vang and a liar. A firearms expert was brought in and during questioning it was proven that Vang only shot once at Nichols, while Nichols said Vang shot twice at him. The maximum penalty for second-degree homicide is 60 years.
