Marquette Senior High School has received a grant to improve student learning. The school is part of the Michigan Smaller Learning Communities Consortium, comprising six high schools across the state. Superintendent Jon Hartwig says the consortium applied as one group for a Department of Education grant to reorganize the structure of their high schools. He says each school will receive about one million dollars over the next five years, and will use the money to help staff envision ways in which the relevance of high school can be enhanced.Hartwig says a facilitator has already begun working with MSHS staff and students to create small, tight-knit learning communities.
