Iron Mountain/Breitung Township to share taxes
(2007-09-27)
(wnmu) - The city of Iron Mountain and nearby Breitung Township have entered into a tax sharing plan. City manager John Marquart says the purpose of the so-called "425 agreements" is to enter into a cooperative relationship for advanced economic development, job creation, and tax base expansion. He says the plan will be mutually beneficial, in that city resources will be extended into the township, which can attract new businesses.

Marquart says the city and township have been working on the plan for about four years. The city council has approved a resolution to sign the agreements, and will submit them to the state after a 30-day waiting period.
