Kirtland warblers on the rise
(2007-09-24)
MARQUETTE, MI
(wnmu) -
Officials with the Fish and Wildlife service are pleased to announce that the number of the endangered Kirtland Warblers are on the rise. Researchers discovered 32 male singing warblers in the Upper Peninsula during the 2007 survey period. Christi Doloria is a biologist with the Fish and Wildlife service in Marquette. She says the number of warblers is on the rise and that human efforts have greatly contributed to their increase. Doloria says planting Jack Pine and preserving the bird's natural habitat is the best way to protect the species.
