Winds fan Sleeper Lake flames
Officials believe a lightning strike in the Lake Superior State Forest in Luce county had started the wildfire August 2.

Strong winds have awakened the Sleeper Lake wildfire. Three spot fires forced officials to close a 15-mile stretch of a county road north of Pine Stump Junction Monday. About 25 people were forced to leave their homes. The DNR says the fire is 67 percent contained. It has burned more than 18,000 acres, or about 28 square miles. An air tanker from Minnesota arrived Monday night, and is helping douse the flames.Officials believe a lightning strike in the Lake Superior State Forest in Luce county had started the wildfire August 2.
