Sleeper Lake Fire 25 percent controlled
(2007-08-10)
(wnmu) - An eight-day-old wildfire has slowed its spread in Luce County, after consuming 28 square miles of backcountry. The Sleeper Lake Fire could resume its spread Friday, with the arrival of dry wind gusts from the southeast. A 220-person firefighting team has been building up lines around the blaze. Firefighters continue to pour on water from ground pumpers and Air National Guard helicopters. Firefighters also are digging wells along the outer edge to make it easier to hose down the fire.
