Trooper prevents Keweenaw Bay drownings
(2007-08-02)
KEWEENAW BAY, MI
(wnmu) -
A Baraga man and his daughter are alive and well, thanks to the efforts of a Michigan State Police trooper. The eight-year-old girl was on a floatation device at the head of Keweenaw Bay Wednesday afternoon when strong winds pushed her further out into the bay. The 40-year-old father tried to bring the girl back to shore, but started having trouble in the cold water. Trooper Kurt Ries of the L'Anse post jumped into the bay and pulled the two to shore. None involved were injured in the incident.
