Chili recall expanded
(2007-07-25)
(wnmu) - The maker of chili sauce that was recalled for botulism contamination has expanded its list of possibly affected products. The Centers for Disease Control and Federal Drug Administration have advised people not to eat 10-ounce cans of Castleberry's Hot Dog Chili Sauce. Cases of botulism have been reported in Indiana and Texas due to consumption of the product. John Petrasky is the Medical Director for Public Health in Delta and Menominee counties. He says botulism is serious, especially if people ingest a lot of tainted food. The toxin acts as a nerve paralyzer, and can lead to asphyxiation.

So far, no cases of botulism have been reported in Michigan. For a complete list of recalled products, go to www.castleberrys.com.
