Truck traffic declines
(2007-07-16)
SAULT STE. MARIE, MI
(wnmu) -
Members of the International Bridge Administration are concerned with a 10 percent decline in commercial truck traffic in Sault Sainte Marie. Commercial trucking makes up half of toll revenue, making the drop even more disturbing. Phil Becker with IBA says the regression may be due to a 2 year ongoing slump in the US building construction market. Becker says recent findings show nearly 40 percent of trucks crossing the Sault Sainte Marie International Bridge carry building material. The IBA projects this year's commercial toll receipts could be below $400,000.
