MARQUETTE, MI
(wnmu) -
It's "hurry up and wait" for Michigan school districts trying to figure out next year's budget. The legislature still hasn't decided how much students in each district will receive. Jon Hartwig is Superintendent of Marquette Area Public Schools. He notes lawmakers rarely have solid numbers until mid-summer or later. Hartwig says the budget will have to be formulated on current numbers, and administrators just have to have patience. Hartwig says anticipated layoffs in the MAPS district may be averted or severely diminished, due to retirements and shifts in employees. He says officials probably won't know what the budget will actually be until the next school year begins. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
