Low water at Isle Royale causing problems
(2007-05-29)
ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK
(wnmu) -
Low water levels are causing problems at Isle Royale National Park. Officials there say the water depth at some of the park's docks are only between 2.5 and 3.5 feet deep. That means some large rocks and boulders are now at or very near the surface. Rangers are advising boaters to approach each dock as though they've never been there before. Officials say cribbing at many dock sites is exposed, and at some places there are metal or log projections underneath the docks. Park superintendent Phyllis Green says unless the water level rises measurably in the next couple of months, there will be less dockage available this summer park-wide.
