Gwinn schools anticipating more cuts
(2007-04-26)
(wnmu) - The Gwinn Area Community Schools district will have to tighten its belt even more before the coming school year. That's according to Superintendent Steve Peffers. Last week the school board announced the elimination of several teaching positions at Gilbert Elementary and KI Sawyer Elementary schools. Peffers says the cuts will result in around $400,000 in savings next year, and an increase in class size. He notes more cuts will most likely have to be made in order for the district to stay afloat, saying part of the general fund will have to be used to make necessary building repairs. Peffers says school officials are planning for a "flat" enrollment next year, which means a drop of about 15 students from the current year.
