SAULT STE. MARIE, MI
(wnmu) -
An appeal has delayed the trial of the former chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie tribe of Chippewa Indians. The Tribe filed a civil suit against Bernard Bouschor, alleging he and seven employees paid $2.66 million in unauthorized severance agreements. The matter was to go to trial next month. But a judge has forced a stay, pending the outcome of an appeal filed by Bouschor. The Tribe has filed a cross-appeal, and has asked the court to rule in its favor. Bouschor says "executive immunity" exempted him from any wrongdoing. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
