Radios improve law enforcement communication
(2007-03-16)
(wnmu) - Law enforcement agencies across the Upper Peninsula will now be able to talk to each other more efficiently. Through a $740,000 Department of Justice grant, 800-megahertz equipment was distributed Thursday to state, county, and local agencies in all 15 U.P. counties. Captain Myles McCormack is the Eighth District Commander at the Negaunee Post. He says the digital radios will enable public safety officials to easily communicate, whereas each agency used to have its own system. McCormack says every county in the U.P. worked collectively as a consortium to apply for the grant. He notes the equipment will be programmed and installed within the next 30 to 60 days.
