U.S. Coast Guard officials reminds all to use caution when recreating on the Great Lakes. In February, the Coast Guard responded to 15 search and rescue cases, 3 of which were fatal. The U.S. Coast Guard says check the weather before going out onto the ice and never go out onto the ice alone. It is also helpful to dress in bright colors, so that in case of emergency you can be easily spotted. For more information on great lakes safety contact your U.S. Coast Guard unit.
