Upper Peninsula Power Company officials continue to move forward with plans to rebuild Silver Lake. UPPCO Environmental Consultant Shawn Puzen says the company has proposed amendments to its operating license. They would allow UPPCO to rebuild the dam instead of abandoning it. Puzen says at a recent meeting in Marquette, officials explained to stakeholders how UPPCO is trying to make rebuilding more economical than abandonment. Puzen says if UPPCO reconstructs the Silver Lake dam, the spillway would have to be rebuilt, and officials would have to make sure the probable maximum flood could be passed by the project safely.
