Marquette County Health Department promotes heart health awareness
(2007-02-06)
(wnmu) - The Marquette County Health Department is participating in a statewide initiative to improve public health by promoting different issues each month. February is Healthy Hearts Month and will focus on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In 2005, 86 men and 83 women died from heart disease in Marquette County. Health department officials say diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure are three major risk factors for heart problems. They say it is also important to avoid smoking and excessive drinking. Heart health can be achieved by maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in physical activity, and eating healthy.
