MTU to open childcare center
Michigan Technological University is planning to implement a childcare center for the benefit of staff and students. Childcare Board Chair Sue Beske-Diehl says the move will help in recruiting more students and staff by creating the option of campus childcare. She says there has been a need for a comprehensive childcare center for a long time. Beske-Diehl says Gretchen Preston, who has nine centers in the Ann Arbor area, has been hired to provide the childcare. She says members of the board have visited some of those centers and noted that they are learning environments as well as daycare centers.
Beske-Diehl says the building plans need to be approved by state and local officials before the building can be constructed. She anticipates an early summer opening, and says the university community will have the first opportunity to take advantage of openings in the center.
