DNR officers rescue snowmobilers from icy lake
(2007-01-23)
(wnmu) - Two snowmobilers are safe after being pulled from Lake Gogebic by Department of Natural Resources conservation officers over the weekend. The operators had broken through thin ice on Bergland Bay near the inlet of the Ontonagon River. After one rider was able to get himself out of the water, Officers Douglas Hermanson and Brett Gustafson arrived on scene and attempted to talk the other man through self-rescue. When that failed, Officers Steve Burton and Matt Eberly arrived with snowmobile ramps and rope, which the four officers used to pull the man from the water. The snowmobiler was transported by ambulance to Ontonagon Memorial Hospital for treatment of severe hypothermia. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
