Escanaba may switch to automated trash removal
(2007-01-23)
(wnmu) - The city of Escanaba may switch to an automated garbage collection system that would reduce the need for manual labor. City manager Jim O'Toole says the administration has proposed the change, which would only need two people instead of six to take care of garbage collection for the city. O'Toole says the main questions people had were about the logistics and cost of an automated system. O'Toole says the change would mean improved efficiency and a cost reduction of about $230,000 for the city. He adds that the issue will be discussed and voted on the February 15th city council agenda. He says if it's approved, bids for the equipment will be sought and the project will be worked into the budget. © Copyright 2013, wnmu
