MGH has affiliated with Moffitt Cancer Center for the Total Cancer Care project
(2009-11-19)
(wnmu) - Staff from the Moffitt Cancer Center based in Tampa, Florida, visited Marquette General Hospital to discuss an affiliation agreement this week. The Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center affiliated with Moffitt to participate in a nationwide tumor research project. The project, Total Cancer Care, is a partnership of patients, doctors and researchers trying to advance cancer care through personalized medicine.
During the past 3-years, Moffitt has enrolled more than
43,000 cancer patients in the project. Total Cancer Care has molecular biologists identify biological markers unique to each tumor. Researchers then analyze patients' response to treatments. The project aims to create more individualized care that provides rapid improvements with fewer side effects.
There are 17-total Cancer Care sites in the U.S. for more information call the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center at 225-4575.
