Grant will digitize 1970s oral history collection
(wnmu) - Finlandia University's Finnish American Historical Archive has been awarded a grant from the Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission. The $4,000 grant has been matched by Finlandia University. The funds will be used to digitize and preserve the archive's Finnish Folklore and Social Change in the Great Lakes Mining Region Oral History Collection. The collection was recorded in the 1970s on analog cassette tape with the aid of funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The oral histories include recordings of immigrants and first generation Finns. The digitized archive will be available online as a searchable exhibit.

Hilary Maurin, a graduate student intern from Wayne State University Masters of Library Science Program, will begin work digitizing the library this June.
