Former Sault Tribe Police Chief sentenced for fraud

(wnmu) - The former chief of police for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has been sentenced for defrauding the federal government.

Fred Paquin, 52, pleaded guilty to misusing U.S. Department of Justice Tribal Resources grants awarded to his department between 2002 and 2008.

He was sentenced in federal court this week to a year and a day in prison and $231,000 restitution.
