Gambling Opponents Testify at Council Hearing
(2005-09-29)
(wned) - The idea of opening a casino in Buffalo is still drawing plenty of criticism from some local residents.

About a dozen people turned out for a hearing by the Common Council's Community Development Committee.

Among those testifying was Buffalo School Board member and downtown developer Christopher Jacobs. He says the problems associated with gambling will take the biggest toll of the city's poorest families.

Jacobs joined members of Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie County. Co-Chair Joel Rose told lawmakers a downtown casino would be devastating to Buffalo's economy.

The Seneca Nation of Indians is expected to announce a site for their Buffalo casino soon.
