McCain addresses National Sheriff's Association
(2008-07-02)
INDIANAPOLIS, IN
(wbaa) -
Senator John McCain is trying to sway some law enforcement officials in his bid for the presidency. The Republican spoke to the National Sheriff's Association meeting in Indianapolis and pledged more Federal support for their cause.
McCain brought up a recent decision by a federal judge, which overturned the death penalty for a man convicted of raping a child.
He calls that kind of judicial activism an obstacle for police, prosecutors and juries.
McCain also told sheriffs he will seek stiffer criminal sentencing and improvements to the federal gun owners' registry, if he's elected president. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
