Cindy McCain Has Harsh Words for Myanmar's Leaders
HANOI, VIETNAM
(Associated Press) -
Cindy McCain has some harsh words for Myanmar's military junta and its response to last month's devastating cyclone.
The wife of the presumed Republican presidential nominee says Myanmar leaders are a "terrible group of people" who don't value human life. Cindy McCain vowed to make improving human rights there a priority if she becomes America's next first lady.
The cyclone killed an estimated 78,000 people and left another 56,000 missing. In its wake, Myanmar's government turned away aid offered by the U.S. and other countries.
Cindy McCain has been visiting Southeast Asia, but says she didn't even try to get an entry visa to Myanmar, knowing it would likely be denied by its secretive government. Instead, she'll get a briefing on the situation there from the U.N. World Food Program in Thailand. © Copyright 2012, Associated Press
