The West Side Show Room Theatre and The Rockford Area Arts Council present the first ever “Rockford New Play Festival” at Mendelssohn’s Starr Center on Thursday, August 14th at 7:30 p.m. The festival will consist of staged readings of seven ten-minute plays, written by playwrights from Rockford and across the country and performed by an ensemble of Rockford-area actors under the direction of West Side Show Room Artistic Director, Mike Werckle. The plays presented represent a broad range of theatrical styles, yet they all touch in some way on the Festival’s theme of “beginnings”. They include: The Paperboy Comes Before Dawn, by Chicago based writer Aaron Adair, Dam, Sweet Dam, by Steve Coogan of Rockford, Late Bloomer, by Caleigh Derreberry, a high school student from Lilburn, Georgia, Earth from the Moon by 2014 Rockford Auburn High School graduate Derick Edgren, Not Peace but a Sword by New York and Los Angeles based writer Mildred Lewis, Epiphany, by Rockford writer Charlyne Blatcher Martin, and Roundabout Rumble by David Ross, also of Rockford.
