Lawmakers Seek Funding to Address Neighborhood Blight
U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan made a stop in Buffalo at the urging of Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Brian Higgins. The lawmakers gave Donovan a tour of blighted neighborhoods in the city in an effort to boost support in the Obama Administration for the "Community Regeneration Act." Schumer and Higgins proposed the legislation that would establish a $300 million program to address vacant housing.
Stimulus Money Requested for High-Speed Rail Projects
Albany wants $565 million in federal money to speed passenger trains across New York. The money would come from $8 billion in stimulus money for high-speed rail across the country, funding which has been heavily sought by states across the nation.
